Peter's Picks

I have picked out some Hudson Valley products that I find to be of exceptional quality. I do not get paid for these listings. I list them simply because I like them and use them. All companies can ship orders. Where possible a website link has been established.

We could call our daughter Peter Pamela a "Hudson Valley Product" in the sense that she grew up in the Valley. If you are interested in Acting/Directing/Life Coaching, please visit her website at

Michael's Candy Corner in Kingston, 845 338 6782 The only hand-made candy canes around. They are big and beautiful. www.candycornerusa.com

If you visit the store in August/early September, you can watch them make their famous candy canes.

Old Chatham Sheepherding Co. in Old Chatham, 888 SHEEP60

Their Hudson Valley Brie is the best cheese in the Valley.

Alternative Baker in Rosendale, NY; 845 658 3355

This bakery knows its bread. It also makes products, such as sugar-free or wheat-free, for special diets. My favorites are their baquettes and pumpkin muffins, but the pound cake and lemon cake are standouts as well.

ZAZ Mustard in Big Indian, NY.

This little company makes a lush, sweet mustard. It is terrific when used in deviled eggs.

Old Amsterdam cheese

This is a versatile aged Dutch Gouda cheese that cannot only be used grated on pastas, but also is a wonderful accompaniment to drinks (bring to room temperature for easy slicing/cubing) and it is excellent in cheese sauces. It truly is a revelation when melted in the hollow of a halved baked apple! Check your supermarkets.

More Picks to come as I discover them.
